UPDATE: in 30 years of keeping records here in Topanga, California this is the most rain I have ever recorded this early in the water year (Oct 1st – Sept 30th): 18.57 inches of rain! That’s almost an entire year’s average! For reference usually on Jan 3rd we’ve had 6.62 inches to date. Last year we only had 9.83 inches for the entire year!
A lightning strike in Topanga Canyon.

I’ve been collecting meteorological data for over 30 years, first with a Davis Weather Monitor II, next a Davis Vantage Pro 2 and as of 2025 I’ve switched to an Ambient WS-2902 at both the Fernwood location and now also at Cassie’s casita in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico.
